Winner - 2014 IT Industry Award for Network/Infrastructure Project of the Year

Our vision is to make wireless an incredible experience for everyone, and at Building Zones we pride ourselves on delivering this for all our clients. When it comes down to it, wireless is all about the end user experience.

David Ball, the Head of IT for Eversheds, a leading global Law Firm, awarded Building Zones the contract to deliver their Gigabit Enterprise Wireless Network in December 2013. And that’s when he dropped the bombshell and told me he wanted to start the project in the New Year and complete it by the end of April 2014, without any downtime.

So, we had 4 months to deploy a secure, reliable and scalable wireless network for David and his 3000 colleagues.

3 Continents
9 Countries, 21 Offices
300 access points
Pervasive full speed (1.3Gb, 80Mhz, 3x3) Gigabit WiFi
Corporate, Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and Guest WiFi
From our initial workshops with Eversheds it became clear that pervasive wireless would transform the way their people work and that WiFi was no longer a network of convenience.

We were up for the challenge, and being a Meru Networks Gold Partner we knew that with their virtual-cell technology we had a great chance of delivering on time and on budget. For those of you that don’t know Meru Networks Enterprise Wireless, take it from me “it just works”.

One of the first tasks was to embed ourselves in the Eversheds Networking team and work with them to develop a clear and concise project plan, which involved deployment, implementation, testing and documentation. We like to take a hands-on approach and work more like an in-house team rather than a supplier.

Then it was time to deliver;

  • Site Surveys
  • Cat 5/6 Cabling
  • Mounting Access Points
  • Deploying and Configuring VMware Meru Networks Controllers
  • Radius and VLAN implementations
  • Testing

Working with Eversheds, we went live on the 1st May 2014 with zero downtime, on time and on budget.

Eversheds now have a pervasive Gigabit Wireless network for today and the future, it’s supporting their WorkFlex initiative to facilitate better than 0.7 staff per desk and enables true mobility with Microsoft Lync.

The feedback from Eversheds users has been incredible, it’s not often in IT that you get commended when things go well, but in this case their support has been extremely vocal.

Winning the 2014 IT Industry Award for Network/Infrastructure Project of the Year is a great achievement for Building Zones, Eversheds and Meru Networks.

Without Eversheds giving us this opportunity and working so closely with us, and without Meru Networks amazing technology, winning this award would not have been possible.

What will 2015 bring us? 2014 is going to be a tough act to follow, but we’re up for the challenge.
